KISSKI - AI service center for sensitive and
critical infrastructures

The increased demands of research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) have led to enormous progress. This is mainly thanks to increasingly powerful hardware and the growing availability of data and algorithms.

Focus on critical infrastructures

To further promote this progress, particularly in the fields of energy and medicine, the Fraunhofer IEE is working with several partners to set up an AI service center. The partners include the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH (GWDG), the University of Hanover, the University of Göttingen and the aQua-Institut für angewandte Qualitätsförderung und Forschung im Gesundheitswesen GmbH.

The KISSKI project

The joint project “AI Service Center for Sensitive and Critical Infrastructures” (KISSKI) is led by the University of Göttingen and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the amount of 17 million euros over three years. KISSKI is one of four large AI service centers in Germany and is intended to enable companies and research institutions to use AI in a secure and supported manner.

Objectives and focus of the project

The main objective of the project is to establish an AI computing and service center that offers user-centric services and supports research. The focus areas include medicine and energy in order to address security-relevant aspects such as the handling of sensitive data.

Contributions of the Fraunhofer IEE

Fraunhofer IEE continues to contribute its expertise in the fields of energy and AI. The institute's scientists provide support in the form of consulting and development services as well as the provision of data and models. These services can be booked via the project homepage as part of pilot projects.

Fraunhofer IEE is also involved in research into the scalability of AI models, training methods and secure data management.
