pandapower Workshop for hands-on Exercises in Power System Modeling and Analysis

As part of IEEE PowerTech 2025, we are introducing the tool pandapower. Join us on Sunday for exciting exercises and introductions to pandapower!

Please note that you must register for the conference and sign up separately for the workshops.

The tool pandapower is an easy to use open source tool for power system modeling, analysis and optimization with a high degree of automation. This international workshop includes a theoretical overview as well as practical programming lessons with pandapower. The participants of the workshop will get to know the pandapower toolbox and learn how to use it.

The workshop addresses everybody who participates in the process of grid planning such as for example:

  • Students: Particularly those studying electrical engineering and related fields, who are interested in energy systems and grid analysis.
  • Researchers: Scientists and researchers focused on developing new methods and technologies in the field of grid planning and operation.
  • Engineers: Professionals working in the industry who are involved in the planning, analysis, and optimization of power grids e.g. distribution or transmission system operators
  • Educators: Professors and instructors who may want to incorporate pandapower into their teaching curriculum.
  • Developers: Software developers and programmers interested in contributing to the development of the open-source tool pandapower
  • Policymakers: Individuals involved in energy policy who are seeking innovative solutions for integrating renewable energy sources.

Prerequisites

  • Basic Knowledge of Python: Participants should have a fundamental understanding of Python programming, including familiarity with data types, functions, and class structures.
  • Understanding of Power Systems: A basic knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, particularly in power systems, is essential. This includes understanding components such as buses, lines, transformers, loads and generators.
  • Familiarity with Pandas: Prior experience with the pandas library is beneficial, as pandapower is built on top of it. Participants should be comfortable working with DataFrames and basic data manipulation.
  • Software Requirements: Participants should have Python installed on their computers, along with the necessary packages such as pandapower and pandas. Basic installation knowledge is recommended.
  • Laptop or Computer: Attendees should bring a laptop or computer capable of running Python and the required libraries.
  • Interest in Power System Analysis: A genuine interest in learning about power system analysis and optimization using pandapower will enhance the workshop experience.
