The flexible scope of accreditation allows different generation technologies to be tested according to the latest editions of standards and testing guidelines. At its SysTec test center in Fuldatal near Kassel, the Fraunhofer IEE offers tests for the following technologies: Photovoltaic converters, combined heat and power units, wind turbine generator components, photovoltaic storage systems, controller for generating plants and smart grid equipment such as transformers with on-load tap-changers.
"We support our partners in the development of new products by measuring the grid characteristics of power converters and cogeneration units in accordance with various grid connection guidelines. The test infrastructure includes a natural gas connection (2.5 MW), a low and a medium voltage connection (20 kV), programmable sources and sinks (DC: 3 MW, 1000 V, AC: 1 MVA, 900 V), mobile test equipment for fault ride through tests (6 MVA, 20 kV), real-time simulation systems. On-site tests, e.g. at manufacturers or plant operators, are also possible," says Dr. Gunter Arnold describing the portfolio of the business unit Measurement and Testing Services.
In addition, laboratory measurements on power converters (e.g. efficiency, electromagnetic compatibility, voltage quality, power performance, ageing, etc.), customer-specific measurements on rotating machines, measurements of system technology components and the characterization of power electronics components as well as specifications for the construction of test environments are also offered.
Fraunhofer IEE is a founding member of DERlab, the international network of about 30 leading laboratories and research institutes in the field of decentralized energy resources in power systems.
