Forschungsprojekt METIS IV

METIS IV - Extension of the METIS energy model and conducting studies demonstrating the upgrades

METIS IV enhances the METIS energy modelling suite through targeted model and data upgrades, including improved representations of electricity markets, grid constraints, global hydrogen trade, and sectoral demand flexibility. The upgraded modelling capabilities will be demonstrated through a series of in-depth studies that assess key policy questions for the EU energy transition, with contributions from project partners Artelys (Lead), Tractebel, and Fraunhofer.

Fraunhofer IEE contributes by leading the data collection and model calibration for global hydrogen trade and hydrogen supply routes, delivering temporally and spatially resolved supply curves for hydrogen carriers and derivatives. Furthermore, Fraunhofer IEE supports a study, which assesses competition among hydrogen supply pathways, including the role of derivatives in industry, import vs. domestic production dynamics, and infrastructure needs.
